Will AI be the new UX?

What is a fable in science fiction today becomes a fact tomorrow. Sci-fi folklore have long foretold of a fascinating future where earthlings are able to attain the ultimate synergy with intelligent androids. From Tom Cruise in the neo-noir movie “Minority Report” using wireless-gloved hand gestures to manipulate visual data dexterously on a floating panoramic computer screen to a drone delivering a package to Gillian Anderson in the TV series “The X-Files,” that alluring future is now at our doorstep in the avatar of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The paradigm shift in outlook towards AI gained formidable credence among the masses mainly due to cyborg-oriented franchise flicks such as “The Matrix,” “The Terminator,” and “Transformers,” despite depicting the implausible dystopian destiny where robots rule earth.

AI is adept at creating more swiftly than what nature takes hundreds of years to perfect. The global AI market will rake in close to a whopping $60 billion by 20251. Be it autonomous cars, virtual assistants, telemedicine diagnostics, predictive searches, or voice detection and facial recognition in gadgets, AI today has become omnipresent and omnipotent.

A few years ago, the popular perception was that an AI-powered tool was least likely to write a blockbuster film that earns an Oscar or author an international bestseller that would win a Pulitzer Prize for literature. However, powerful algorithm-driven automatons dispelled the longstanding view that ‘creativity’ was beyond a machine’s capability by leveraging machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing (NLP).

With AI, the possibilities are limitless.

On a visit to an art exhibition, your smartphone could promptly offer you deeper insights about that painting, photograph, or manuscript by harnessing augmented reality and learning data representations. Behind the scenes, the phone’s processor deftly deduces the content’s semantic structure, emotions, and aesthetic qualities of animations, images, and illustrations. Applying real-time big data and contextually aware software applications, it assimilates, translates, and validates pieces of data and converts them into nifty readable articles across feasible channels nippily.
